The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) is the US Public Health Service which keeps track of trends in infectious disease in the United States. Since 1991 they have recommended, and OSHA has required, the use of protective attire and hepatitis B vaccination to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens. With the H1N1 pandemic originating in this area in the spring of 2009, they have been particularly concerned about the emergence of this new strain of influenza and the ongoing implications of respiatory disease transmission in the global community.
